The mission of the Music Performance Trust Fund is to provide admission-free, live, quality music events by professional musicians to schools, the senior population, and general public.
Established in 1948 by a landmark labor action between the American Federation of Musicians and major recording companies of the day, royalties from record sales and, more recently, streaming platforms, have funded countless quality performances over the past 75+ years.
This year, at our Local 677, MPTF has funded more than 20 performances at our Studio 909, senior facilities, and other venues. These events have provided 124 gig opportunities for our musicians. Musical genres included classical, Hawaiian, jazz, progressive rock, pop, and country.
Most recently, in Studio 909, MPTF funded the “Jazzy Labor of Love” concert on September 1st, featuring The Benny Chong/Byron Yasui Quartet, The PBS Jazz Ensemble, and The DeShannon Higa Subtonic Orchestra, and a September 30th live stream of a concert of specially commissioned arrangements of Queen Lili’uokalani mele, performed by Hawaii Symphony Low Brass, led by Lisa Stoneham.
MPTF is accepting proposals for live musical performances of all genres, either open to the general community or specifically for senior care/retirement facilities or schools.
