- Local Initiation Fee (one-time): $100.00
- Federation Initiation Fee (one-time): $65.00*
* If you already belong to a local or have belonged in the past (and resigned in good standing), this fee will be waived. Members joining who are under 21 also do not pay the local & federation initiation fees. Current members who belonged to three or more Locals throughout 2014 can petition the AFM Secretary-Treasurer for a “rebate equal to the per capita dues received by the Federation”.
Dues Structure & Payment Schedules
Our Association operating monies come from two sources: membership dues and work dues.
Work Dues
Whenever you perform a Union job, you pay a small percentage of the minimum wage for that job in work dues, currently 4.5%. If you utilize a payroll service, this is typically set up as an automatic deduction.
Membership Dues
New members pay an initiation fee of $165 ($65 to the AFM and $100 to the Local). After the first year, membership dues are $210 per year.
Dues may be paid in full, in six-month increments, or quarterly. The cost for joining for half a year or quarterly is higher; semi-annual membership dues are $110 every 6 months and $57.50 every quarter. Life and Inactive Life Membership dues are $104 per year, and may only be paid on an annual basis.
Payment Schedule
Annual membership dues for Regular Members, Life Members, and Inactive Life Members are due Jan. 1. Dues must be received by January 31 to avoid suspension. Dues and reinstatement fees must be received by June 30 to avoid expulsion.
Semi-annual membership dues for regular members are due July 1. Dues must be received by July 31 to avoid suspension. Dues and reinstatement fees must be received by Dec. 31 to avoid expulsion.
Quarterly membership dues for regular members are due Jan. 1, Apr. 1, July 1, & Oct. 1. Dues must be received by Jan. 31, Apr. 30, July 31, & Oct. 31 respectively to avoid suspension. Dues and reinstatement fees not received after 6 months will result in expulsion.
Local & Federation initiation fees are waived for new members under 21 years of age.
