New Collective Bargaining Agreement with Diamond Head Theater is a promising start
Theater Musicians:
This past year, a new collective bargaining agreement was put in place with Diamond Head Theater. Pay was raised to $89 per rehearsal or performance, with stipulations for doubling (which had not previously been paid for). This rate is still not ideal, and we hope for further improvement in future negotiations. However, it is a significant (23%) improvement and much better than rates paid by other local Hawaii theater productions. If you are called on to play at other theaters which pay less, (Manoa Valley, Paliku, etc.), it is important that musical directors and theaters be made aware of this raising of the bar. The goal is to bring all local theaters to a respectable pay rate for musicians.
